Gary joined the CBN board after experiencing the benefits of our services during his own social care assessment. With CBN’s support, he was able to secure an Option 1 Direct Payment, giving him greater choice and control over his care arrangements.
A dedicated sportsman, Gary has competed in swimming, table tennis, wheelchair basketball, and wheelchair rugby union since 1975. He has represented Scotland in all four sports and played wheelchair basketball for Great Britain at the 1984 Paralympics. His remarkable achievements include breaking the World Record in 100m Backstroke, winning the Junior World Table Tennis Championship, and earning multiple caps for Scotland and Great Britain in wheelchair basketball.
Gary is also a passionate coach and mentor, continuing to play and coach wheelchair basketball at the West of Scotland Wheelchair Sports Club. Beyond Scotland, he has supported the development of wheelchair sports internationally, particularly in Georgia, where he trained and mentored local athletes, helping to grow their national wheelchair basketball program.
In addition to his work in sports, Gary is committed to improving the lives of disabled people through his role with Max Wheelchairs, where he supports clients across Scotland. His extensive experience as an athlete, coach, and advocate, combined with his professional expertise, makes Gary a valuable member of the CBN board.
